To drive you need to be 17 years of age and hold a Provisional License. You can apply for your Provisional License either on line via the DVLA (www.GOV.UK) or pick up a form from your local Post Office. The current cost of a Provisional License is £34.00*. You will need your National Insurance Number and Passport Number to complete the application. You also need to be able to read a number plate from 20 meters away, (this will be checked by me on your first lesson and on your Practical Driving Test). Help and advice for applying can be found at www.GOV.UK. *Please check current costs with the DVLA prior to applying.
I offer lessons in a manual car only. My current car is a 1.2 Citroen C3. I picked this car as it is very easy for pupils to drive and manoeuvre is a perfect size for you to get used to the road in.
Please refer to the ‘Lesson Prices’ section of the website, where you will find current offers available for New Drivers, Block Blocking's and Intensive Courses. Please feel free to contact me prior to booking so we can discuss your requirements and the best lesson package for you. Please ensure you read the T&C’s prior to booking.
Once you commence driving, I would recommend that you have a minimum of 2 – 3 hours a week, which will help with your continuity of learning. Learning to drive is an ongoing process and we will build on your experience and work through each ‘Skills Module’ as your knowledge and confidence progresses.
It is hard to put a timescale to how long it will take and how many lessons you will require to be at ‘test standard’. Every pupil’s needs and learning styles are different. We will discuss your progress throughout your journey and tailor each lesson to your current standard and abilities. I would say the main point is ‘don’t rush it’, you are learning a life skill which takes time, the more you put into your lessons and learning experience the better the end result will be, making you a safe and competent driver.
When you are driving competently and safely and we both feel you are ready for your practical test, we will firstly undertake ‘Mock Tests’ together to prepare you for your actual test. You can book your Practical Driving Test online visa www.GOV.UK. You will need your Provisional Driving License Number, Theory Test Certificate Number and a Debit / Credit Card. The current cost of a Practical Driving Test is £62.00 for a weekday test and £75.00 for a weekend test*. Extended Driving Test for past Disqualified Drivers, £124.00 - £150.00*. *Please check current costs at time of booking.
To book your Theory Test, please visit www.GOV.UK and follow the links. The current cost of Theory Test is £23.00*. You will need your Driving License Number and a Debit/ Credit Card to book the test online. You can select your nearest Test Centre at the time of booking (Nottingham / Derby). *Please check current costs at time of booking.
You can practice for your Theory Test at the same time as you are learning to drive, this is an informative way of revising for your Theory Test, as you are also gaining experience on being on the road, road signs, hazards perception and the main elements of the Highway Code, which all feature in the Theory Test itself. If you prefer, you can apply for your Theory Test Certificate prior to taking driving lessons. However, you have to have passed your Theory Test prior to undertaking the Practical Driving Test. The Theory Test Certificate is valid for 2 years. To help you prepare for your Theory Test, useful DVD’s and books can be purchased from local Book Shops, Amazon and via reputable on line retailers.
